Because of this, it may be tricky to get properly locked on to the cooling tanks at first. Avoid standing in front of Little Johnny as much as possible, as his pincers are difficult to dodge (note that skilled players can destroy the pincers to get special weapons, but it's really difficult to do this and also finish the fight in one piece).Īs we noted in our review of The Surge 2, the lock-on system in the game isn't always the most reliable. Walk underneath the mech and wait for it to slam to the ground, then unleash a charged attack at the cooling tanks. The trick to beating Little Johnny in The Surge 2 is to bait him into trying to slam down onto the player. For the first part of the Little Johnny boss fight, it's best to focus on the cooling tanks attached to the mech's cockpit first. There are two attached to the body of the mech, and one on the end of each tentacle. On the contrary, players need to destroy the cooling tanks attached to his mech. This Surge 2 boss fight isn't easy, but there are strategies players can employ to make things a bit less stressful on themselves.įirst and foremost, the goal of the Little Johnny boss fight in The Surge 2 isn't just to whittle away his health meter like other bosses encountered in the sci-fi Souls-like game. In the early portions of the game, one of the toughest boss fights players will have is against Little Johnny, who pilots a tentacled mech and can deal an absurd amount of damage to the player.
#THE SURGE 2 FIRST BOSS SERIES#
Yes it's the same analog stick but it shouldn't move the camera when you are trying to get the parry. The Surge 2 is a Souls-like game, and as such, it features a series of increasingly-difficult boss battles for players to overcome. You DO NOT have to move the camera to directional parry so I think you're messing something up. As for the battery-healing system I can agree with that sometimes, it's good when you can fight a lot of low level enemies and build up a reservoir of energy ,it is annoying having to start over, just be sure you're upgrading you implants cause then it'll give you more starting uses. Little Johnny isn't a normal boss the point is to hit the cooling parts on the machine and over-heat him so it's not a traditional health bar. Little Johnny is one of those bosses that can be rage inducing but a total push-over once you get it. This is just about my personal preference and level of frustration, which admittedly is pretty short, haha. I'm not trying to rag on the game or anyone's experience. So instead of just timing the button right, like in Sekiro, you have to also move the camera stick in the direction of the attack?! And of course, since that also is how you change focus, I end up moving my focus to another part unintentionally.

It has its advantages, but I'm also left in the situation that every time I die on this boss, I have to start over with minimum healing and work back up, while trying to stay alive. It's incredibly frustrating to spend that amount of time, only to inevitably die and start over. I might spend ten minutes trying frantically to stay alive, and I'm barely halfway there. It takes so long to make progress against this boss. But this just feels wrong to me, for several reasons. I'm not new to difficult bosses: I've beaten Sekiro, Bloodborne, Demon's Souls, Elden Ring, and both Niohs. I was really enjoying this game until I got to Little Johnny, now I've beat my head against him so many times and just feel frustration.
